Neptune ACTIVEPHASE: Advanced Active Harmonic Filter System for Superior Power Quality

Why Power Quality Matters in Modern Electrical Networks?

Modern industries rely heavily on electronic equipment such as Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs), UPS systems, rectifiers, LED lighting, CNC machines and automation systems. While these technologies improve operational efficiency, they also introduce harmonics into the electrical network.
A healthy power system operates with a pure sinusoidal current waveform. However, non-linear loads generate distorted waveforms that lead to poor power quality, excessive harmonic distortion, increased energy losses, overheating of equipment, nuisance tripping, and reduced system reliability.
As industries continue to adopt advanced electronic technologies, managing harmonics has become essential for maintaining efficient and reliable operations.
An Active Harmonic Filter (AHF) continuously monitors the electrical network and dynamically eliminates harmonics, helping maintain compliance with power quality standards while protecting electrical infrastructure.

What is an Active Harmonic Filter (AHF)?

An Active Harmonic Filter (AHF) is an intelligent power quality solution designed to continuously monitor electrical networks and inject compensating currents to eliminate harmonic distortions. Unlike conventional passive filters, active harmonic filters dynamically adapt to changing load conditions, providing real-time harmonic compensation and improved power quality.
The Neptune ACTIVEPHASE Series is a state-of-the-art Modular Active Harmonic Filter System engineered to address complex power quality challenges across industrial, commercial, and infrastructure applications.

Neptune ACTIVEPHASE:

The Neptune ACTIVEPHASE Series is an advanced modular Active Harmonic Filter solution built using one or more intelligent filter modules and equipped with a 7-inch color touchscreen Human Machine Interface (HMI).
Its modular architecture allows users to expand filtering capacity onsite by simply adding additional modules whenever system requirements increase. This flexibility makes ACTIVEPHASE an ideal future-ready solution for growing facilities.

Key Features of Neptune ACTIVEPHASE

Advanced Silicon Carbide & 3-Level Topology Technology

The ACTIVEPHASE system utilizes high-efficiency Silicon Carbide (SiC) MOSFET technology and 3-Level Topology IGBT-based modular filter units. This advanced design ensures superior harmonic mitigation performance while supporting both:

  • 3 Phase 3 Wire (3P3W)
  • 3 Phase 4 Wire (3P4W) electrical systems.

Wide Harmonic Compensation Range
The system effectively compensates harmonics from the 2nd order up to the 51st order, significantly reducing Total Harmonic Distortion (THD) and improving overall network performance.

AHF, Active harmonic Filters, Power Quality Solutions

Generator Friendly Operation
Many facilities operate on diesel generator backup systems where harmonics can create severe operational challenges. ACTIVEPHASE is fully compatible with diesel generators and maintains stable performance even under demanding operating conditions.

Designed for Harsh Industrial Environments
The filter is engineered to operate reliably in ambient temperatures up to 50°C, making it suitable for manufacturing plants, process industries, infrastructure projects, and utility installations.

Reduced Voltage Distortion
By minimizing harmonic currents, ACTIVEPHASE reduces voltage distortion and fluctuations, helping to:

  • Improve system stability
  • Increase equipment reliability
  • Extend the lifespan of electrical assets
  • Reduce maintenance costs

Flexible Modular Expansion
Available module ratings include: 50 to 200 A. For larger installations, multiple modules can be connected in parallel, providing scalable harmonic filtering capacity without major system modifications.

Advanced Communication & Monitoring
The system supports modern industrial communication protocols including: Ethernet, Modbus Protocol & RS-485. This enables seamless integration with SCADA systems, Building Management Systems (BMS) and energy monitoring platforms

Benefits of Installing Neptune ACTIVEPHASE

  • Significant reduction in Total Harmonic Distortion (THD)
  • Improved power quality and system efficiency
  • Elimination of harmonic-related resonance risks
  • Enhanced transformer and generator performance
  • Reduced cable and equipment overheating
  • Lower maintenance requirements
  • Increased uptime and operational reliability
  • Future-proof modular scalability

    Applications:
  • Manufacturing Plants
  • Commercial Buildings
  • Data Centers
  • Hospitals
  • Airports
  • IT Parks
  • Process Industries
  • Water Treatment Plants
  • Renewable Energy Installations
  • Infrastructure Projects

Compliance and Standards: The ACTIVEPHASE Series complies with internationally recognized standards, including:
  • IEC 61000-4
  • EN 50178
  • EN/IEC 61000-6
  • EN 55011
  • EN 60091-1
  • EN 60529
These certifications ensure safety, reliability, and performance in demanding electrical environments.

    Conclusion
  • As modern electrical networks become increasingly dependent on non-linear electronic loads, harmonic mitigation is no longer optional—it is essential. Neptune ACTIVEPHASE provides a reliable, scalable, and intelligent Active Harmonic Filter solution that helps organizations achieve superior power quality, improve equipment life, and enhance operational efficiency.
  • With advanced Silicon Carbide technology, modular scalability, wide harmonic compensation capability, and robust industrial design, Neptune ACTIVEPHASE stands as a comprehensive solution for today’s power quality challenges.

Everything you need to know about Mixed Dielectric Capacitors

Capacitors seemingly have a lot of varying and differentiated uses across the base, the very basic and straightforward of which involves actually storing energy. But, did you know? There are immense varieties with respect to size, form, style and individual types.

Now, dielectric is the material that is placed between the opposing faces of the capacitor plates. They are essentially electric insulators, but can get polarized when placed along the lines of an electric field. Because of dielectric polarization, the positive charges ‘shift’ in the direction of the electric field, but the negative ones shift directly opposite.

Now, the study in dielectric has constituted much about the effective industrial use, and that’s where Mixed Dielectric Capacitors come in.

What is exactly meant by Mixed Dielectric Capacitors that should be known?

The basic premise about MDC is that they have effectively become the standard for unit capacitor choice from polycarbonate materials with polypropylene film with aluminum just as any normal Mixed Propylene Capacitors (MPP).

But, the main point of difference is that they also contain another dielectric layer made up of craft paper coated with biodegradable oil or resin. This layer is essentially placed beneath the MPP film. This gives it slightly longer life than ordinary MPP, and is also eventually most costly.

The advantages brought by Mixed Dielectric Capacitors

Mixed Dielectric Capacitors have also been consolidated in terms of having a higher capacitance level as when compared with what is generally considered ordinary. The dual layered construction inimitably helps them having a lower voltage limit, as well as acting as a reliable middle option solution between electrolytic capacitors and the general rechargeable battery.

You will find that energy storage and tolerance capabilities are also quite high. They even work without any gaps when there is a case for very high temperature when capacitors’ performance generally suffers.

Their ability to discharge a large amount of electric load in such a short space of time has allowed them to be considered one of the absolute products to be found out there.

If you think you need Mixed Dielectric Capacitors, don’t hesitate in deciding. Despite the price they may very well prove to be greatly advantageous to your cause.
